NEW YORK, Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Zagat Survey, the world's leading provider of consumer survey-based leisure content, today released its 2006 Movie Guide, a compendium of over 1350 of the world's greatest movies. The guide contains ratings and reviews of films from the industry's inception (Birth of a Nation -- 1915) through the 2005 Academy Awards (Million Dollar Baby) and includes titles ranging from A (About a Boy -- 2002) to Z (Zulu -- 1964). The guide is based on the experiences, opinions and preferences of over 12,000 avid film fans, each of whom sees an average of 2.2 movies per week. And with over 65 handy indexes and categories, Zagat Survey's 2006 Movie Guide is the most useful movie guide available.
"Whether you're into horror, romance, comedy or the classics, a thorough, reliable and compelling resource like the Movie Guide not only makes finding the right movie easy, but it's also great fun," said Tim Zagat, Zagat Survey CEO.
The 2006 Movie Guide lists Top Ratings in a variety of different categories. For example, Hotel Rwanda was the highest rated movie of 2004, edging out Academy Award winner Million Dollar Baby. The Godfather (1972), Casablanca (1942) and the original Star Wars (1977) took the top three All- time Favorites. And Seven Samurai (1956) won Top Foreign Film honors. In addition, the 2006 Movie Guide ranks the best films of dozens of actors and directors, from Julie Andrews to Catherine Zeta-Jones, Woody Allen to Robert Zemeckis.
And to help make the guide even more user friendly, the Best Of genre lists have all been split into two categories: Classic and Modern. So for example, the best Classic Western was High Noon (1952), but the best Modern Western was The Wild Bunch (1969) and the best Classic Animated film was Fantasia (1940), while the best Modern Animated film was Finding Nemo (2003). Other genre categories include: Crime, Cult, Epic, Fantasy, Film Noir, Horror, Romance, Sci-Fi, and War, to name a few.
Finally, the 2006 Movie Guide contains dozens of handy indexes such as Biographies, City Settings, Documentaries, Holiday, Independents, Occupations, Oscar Winners, Remakes, Silents, Soundtracks, and many more.
"There's nothing better than seeing a wonderful movie, nothing worse than sitting through one you don't care for -- but having the 2006 Movie Guide at your fingertips is like having 12,000 friends on hand to help ensure you make an informed decision," said Nina Zagat, co-founder of Zagat Survey.
