THINKFilm Buys 'TV SET'

A hair-raising comedy of art and compromise, THE TV SET follows an idealistic writer (Duchovny) as he tries to navigate his TV pilot down the mine-laden path from script through production to the madness of prime-time scheduling -- all while trying to stay true to his vision.

NEW YORK, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- THINKFilm has acquired all North American rights to THE TV SET, a hilarious look at how television is made, written and directed by Jake Kasdan and starring David Duchovny, Sigourney Weaver, Ioan Gruffudd, Justine Bateman, and Judy Greer, it was announced today by the company's Theatrical Head, Mark Urman. The film, which debuted to critical acclaim at this year's Tribeca Film Festival, is scheduled for a theatrical run in Spring, 2007.

A hair-raising comedy of art and compromise, THE TV SET follows an idealistic writer (Duchovny) as he tries to navigate his TV pilot down the mine-laden path from script through production to the madness of prime-time scheduling -- all while trying to stay true to his vision. Along the way he has to juggle the agendas of a headstrong network president (Weaver), volatile young stars, a pregnant wife and an ever-optimistic personal manager.

About the acquisition, Kasdan says, "This movie was a labor of love, for all of us who made it. That's why we're so excited to be working with THINKFilm. From my first conversation with Mark, it was clear to me that the movie had found its right home."

Urman adds, "If it wasn't so funny, THE TV SET would be very scary for what it has to say about the way we live now. How clever of Jake Kasdan to expose how hard it is to create something good in today's dumbed-down America, and then to have created something so good himself."

THE TV SET is produced by Kasdan and Aaron Ryder, executive produced by Lawrence Kasdan and Judd Apatow, co-produced by Ron Schmidt and associate produced by Carey Deitrich, with cinematography by Uta Briesewitz, editing by Tara Timpone, costume design by Debra McGuire, production design by Jefferson Sage, and original musical by Michael Andrews.

The deal was negotiated by Randy Manis, THINKFilm Sr. Vice President of Acquisitions and Business Affairs, and Cinetic Media represented the filmmakers in the sale.
