WHAT: Sundance Institute and the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) announce the second year of their artistic collaboration entitled Sundance Institute at BAM—a series of film screenings, music and theatre performances, panel discussions, and special events that brings the activities of Sundance Institute and the programming of its annual Film Festival to New York audiences May 31-June 10, 2007. The series will include some of the best new dramatic and documentary feature films and exciting shorts from the January 2007 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah and will highlight projects supported by Sundance Institute’s programs in filmmaking, theatre, and film music. Last year, audiences were treated to previews of films like Little Miss Sunshine even before opening in theaters nationally.

Films selected for 2007 Sundance Institute at BAM will be determined following the conclusion of this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The program is designed to stimulate dialogue between artists and audiences and to provide insight into the creative—and practical—processes of filmmakers, playwrights, and composers.

Sundance Institute: Dedicated year-round to the development of artists of independent vision and to the exhibition of their new work, Sundance Institute celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2006. Since its inception, the Institute has grown into an internationally recognized resource for thousands of independent artists through its Sundance Film Festival and artistic development programs which provide a range of concentrated creative and financial support for directors, screenwriters, documentary filmmakers, composers, playwrights and theatre artists. The original values of independence, creative risk-taking, and discovery continue to define and guide the work of Sundance Institute, both with U.S. artists and, increasingly, with artists from other regions of the world.

BAM: Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is recognized internationally for its innovative programming of dance, music, theater, music-theater, opera, and film. BAM, America's oldest performing arts center in continuous operation, has presented performances since 1861, and attracts an audience of more than 400,000 people each year. The institution is led by President Karen Brooks Hopkins and Executive Producer Joseph V. Melillo.
