The 13th Annual Slamdance Film Festival, scheduled to take place, January 18 - 27, 2007 in Park City, Utah, officially launched its call for entries today. “We are currently accepting short and feature film submissions in all genres for the 2007 edition of the festival,” Sarah Diamond, director of programming announced today. “True to form, Slamdance is on the hunt for original projects to showcase.” Slamdance will screen about 100 films in total.

The 2006 festival received over 3,000 submissions from all over the world. Only 26 features in the narrative and documentary feature categories combined, will make it into the main competition, which is strictly devoted to films without domestic theatrical distribution, from first-time feature directors, working with relatively low budgets. Slamdance has remained true to its founding mandate that it is a festival “by filmmakers, for filmmakers,” meaning that the programming team is comprised of filmmakers, many who are Slamdance alumni.

Entry forms and application information are available through the Slamdance website: www.slamdance.com. All film selections will be posted on the 2007 festival page during the second week of December.

Presenting sponsors of the 2007 Slamdance Film Festival are Kodak and fox21. Additional sponsors will be announced as they are confirmed.

Deadlines:
Early Deadline: August 28, 2006
Final Deadline: October 16, 2006
Short Films under 40 minutes: October 10, 2006

As a year round organization, Slamdance serves as a showcase for the discovery of emerging talent and is dedicated to new filmmakers and their vision. Started in 1995 by a group of filmmakers, Slamdance continues to be organized and programmed “by filmmakers for filmmakers.” The annual Festival has been headquartered at Park City’s Treasure Mountain Inn since 1997. Slamdance has established a unique reputation for premiering independent films by first-time directors working with limited budgets. With a renowned film festival as its core, Slamdance has expanded its ventures to include thriving Screenplay and Teleplay competitions, slamdance.com, the Anarchy online short film competition, Dirty Dozen short film DVD series, a $99 Special short film production wing, a Games competition and a newly formed 99K Feature Project educational program.

The 2006 Slamdance Screenplay competition received over 2,000 submissions. Winners will be announced in September. Past winners of the screenplay competition, THE WOODSMAN by Nicole Kassell and Stephen Fetcher, MARIA FULL OF GRACE by Joshua Marston, and NEO NED by Timothy Boughn were made into award winning films.

The Slamdance Guerilla Gamemaker Competition is entering its third year,
and is now accepting entries. Competition finalists will be exhibited and
judged in Park City Utah, during the Slamdance Film Festival. Past winners include Jenova Chen's CLOUD, Joe Bourrie and Patrick Hackett's RUMBLE BOX, and Michael Mateas and Andrew Stern's FACADE.

Each year several Slamdance films have been purchased and distributed commercially, and almost all films were invited to other festivals around the world. Acquisitions from the 2006 festival include THE SASQUATCH DUMPLING GANG and FIND LOVE. Slamdance films have won Spirit Awards, the Palm d'Or and even an Oscar! Alumni include MEMENTO and BATMAN BEGINS director Christopher Nolan ('99 award-winner FOLLOWING); the Russo Brothers ('97 entry PIECES) and MONSTER'S BALL and NEVERLAND director Marc Forster ('96 Audience Award winner LOUNGERS). Participation in the Slamdance Film Festival helped to discover these filmmakers and to propel them into their next feature productions.
