Join NYWIFT for a gala event to honor women who design Hollywood - honorees this year include make-up artist Nicki Ledermann, costume designer Ellen Lutter and hair stylist Lyndell Qui. They have used their considerable talents to bring to life some of the most memorable movie characters in recent years - from show girls, pin-ups and geishas, to gangsters, cops and goons!
The event will be held at Manhattan hotspots Crobar and Pink Elephant, hosted by Martha Nelson, managing editor of The People Group. Gretchen Mol, star of The Notorious Bettie Page, will be a special guest presenter.
The program will include a discussion and film clips highlighting the work of our talented honorees and a display of costumes, photos and sketches from the designer's collections. A reception will follow.
Nicki Ledermann moved to New York City from Germany. She got her start in print and working on fashion runway shows and music videos, moving on to design makeup for such independent films as Palookaville, Happiness and Jesus' Son. Her studio productions include The Notorious Bettie Page and The Devil Wears Prada. She is a two-time Emmy nominee for Sex and the City, for which she won the Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild Awards in 2004.
Ellen Lutter started working in film as a production manager (and on costumes) on an ultra-low-budget Troma film called Squeeze Play directed by Charles Kaufman. Realizing that costume design was her calling, she took classes and began working as a wardrobe supervisor. Her first official costume design job was on Kaufman's low-budget Mother's Day. She went on to design Living in Oblivion, Flirting with Disaster, Cop Land and A Price Above Rubies. Her collaboration with Adam Sandler began in 1998 with Big Daddy. Since then she has been the costume designer on five additional Sandler films - Little Nicky, Mr. Deeds, 50 First Dates, The Longest Yard and the upcoming Click.
A native of Trinidad & Tobago, Lyndell Quiyou began her career 30 years ago in the theatre. She started her film career as Joe Tuben's assistant on Hair and now has more than 50 films to her credit, including Chicago, The Big Chill, The Cotton Club, King of Comedy, Fatal Attraction, Lolita, A Few Good Men, My Best Friend's Wedding, Men Don't Leave and Memoirs of a Geisha. Her television credits include Saturday Night Live, WNET's The Royal Family and The Big Blonde and HBO's Scrambled Feet. Quiyou recently returned to Broadway for Three Days of Rain.
