Las Vegas Convention Center

Today was my first day at the NAB Show in vegas.  It was a pretty quiet day since the show floor still isn’t open.  But it was a day reserved for conference attendees and press conferences.

NAB is huge.  I still can’t believe just how big a show this is.  This is easily the biggest show I have ever attended and I’ve been to some big ones at the Javits center in Manhattan.

Wear sneakers.  No shame in it.  This will be like running a marathon.  There is so much going on that you should really visit the official web site of NAB.  http://www.nabshow.com

The NAB book store is open for business.  They have a lot of categories of professional books, many are books written by the attending speakers.

My first day at NAB included lectures as part of the Producer Director workshop.  This particular track is suited for working Producers and Directors.  But each of the speakers I listened to today all stated that anyone from 2 weeks to 30 years in the biz could learn a few new things.

That’s really what I like best about attending these NAB conference sessions is you get a chance to hear directly from industry experts what the new trends are.  These trends may include new websites, new terminology, and new resources.

Today I participated in lectures presented by

- Richard Harrington of Rhed Pixel on moving project management online with Facebook or Highrise.com

- Danny Draven of Darkworld Pictures talked about producing Indie Films and shooting Horror Features for Blockbuster on Film instead of shooting digital.

- Abba Shapiro talked about planning for post production.

- Laurie Scheer of Flashpoint Academy gave several example of using new media to brand yourself professionally

Getting from your hotel to the Las Vegas Convention center is easy.  Courtesy shuttle busses run every twenty minutes from all of the official NAB partner hotels.  Or, if you are staying at a hotel on the monorail, it’s a few short stops away.
