IFP announced a Gotham Awards tribute to acclaimed filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, honoring his body of work that has spanned more than two decades. The celebrated auteur will accept this tribute at the 15th Annual Gotham Awards, taking place in New York City on November 30.

Jim Jarmusch's illustrious career began in 1980 with his directorial debut, PERMANENT VACATION. While he is one of a handful of American directors largely credited with the birth of the modern American independent film movement, Jarmusch is truly an international filmmaker embraced by audiences worldwide. His films are critically acclaimed internationally and he has introduced US audiences to numerous international talents such as Roberto Benigni and Isaach De Bankolé.

"We have wanted to celebrate Jim Jarmusch's impressive work for quite some time as part of the Gotham Awards," says IFP Executive Director Michelle Byrd. "We are extremely honored that he has accepted our invitation for a celebration of his films during this year's ceremony."

Jarmusch has made an impressive six trips to the Cannes Film Festival with STRANGER THAN PARADISE (recipient of the Camera d'Or), DOWN BY LAW, MYSTERY TRAIN (recipient of the Prize for Highest Artistic Achievement), DEAD MAN (recipient of a European Film Award), the Cesar nominated GHOST DOG: THE WAY OF THE SAMURAI and his latest, BROKEN FLOWERS (recipient of the Grand Prix). Other titles include: NIGHT ON EARTH, YEAR OF THE HORSE, and COFFEE AND CIGARETTES.

His latest film, BROKEN FLOWERS, was released theatrically by Focus Features in August 2005 following its premiere in Cannes. BROKEN FLOWERS will be released on DVD by Focus Features on January 3, 2006.

As previously announced, Matt Dillon, fresh from the success of CRASH and soon to be seen in this February's release FACTOTUM, will also be featured with a Gotham Awards Tribute. Additionally, this year's Gala Co-chairs are President of HBO Family and Documentary Sheila Nevins, and producer Bob Yari of Yari Film Group (CRASH, PRIME).

Gotham Award Presenting Sponsors include: Focus Features, The New York Times, NYC TV and Variety.

GOTHAM AWARDS
The annual Gotham Awards, presented by IFP, celebrate the authentic voices behind and in front of the camera in films made this year. By recognizing that the best films come from a place that is more firmly rooted in the grasp of filmmakers - and not made by committee - the Gotham Awards salute the innovative films and filmmakers whose passion and vision make their way onto the screen year after year.
