New York City, September 26, 2006 - CMJ FilmFest has announced its first round of screenings for 2006. From Tuesday, October 31 to Saturday, November 4th in New York City, CMJ FilmFest presents advance screenings and world premieres of the very best in both independent and major studio releases, ensuring that the CMJ nation gets to preview the hottest new films before they hit theaters.

Running in tandem with the 26th annual CMJ Music Marathon, one of the world's largest and longest-running music events, CMJ FilmFest 2006 features an opening night presentation of Sacha Baron Cohen’s controversial Borat. Later in the week pass holders can check out Darren Aronofsky’s long awaited The Fountain, Jack Black rocking out in Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny, indie film enfant terrible Cam Archer’s visually stunning Wild Tigers I Have Known, THINKFilm’s ode to that unspeakable utterance F*CK.

CMJ FilmFest is also proud to present two special music video programs. On November 2nd at Scandinavia House, CMJ FilmFest and the Package Deals screening series bring you “Northern Transmissions,” a program of music videos from across Scandinavia, featuring artists such as The Knife, The Concretes, Sigur Ros, The Figurines and more. An afterparty will immediately follow the screening in the Scandinavia House’s reception room, and will feature a special guest DJ and complimentary cocktails courtesy of Reyka Vodka.

Also on the 2nd , CMJ attendees are invited to attend a special screening presented by The Department of Film and Media, The Museum of Modern Art. “Chuck Statler – Before MTV” takes you inside the work and vision of legendary music filmmaker Chuck Statler. The screening includes Statler’s videos for Elvis Costello, Madness and DEVO, and will be followed by a conversation with the director, conducted by the program’s curator Jeff Krulick (director of Heavy Metal Parking Lot.)
For the first time ever, CMJ is also offering a special FilmFest Pass, so that even without a full Marathon badge, film lovers can still check out screenings at CMJ FilmFest! With two levels of access available--choose a $50 Unlimited Pass to see everything, or take your pick with the $25 Five Film pass --there's no need to pay for more events than you can attend.

These films are just the beginning! More films will be added to the CMJ FilmFest lineup in the coming days. For the latest information on CMJ FilmFest and for ticket info, visit: http://www.cmj.com/marathon/filmfest.php
